A woman was in custody last night in connection with the murder of a man who was found dead in the bathroom of his home in Drumacanoo, Churchill, Co Donegal, at about 1.30am on Sunday.

Although gardaí did not initially suspect foul play, a postmortem at Letterkenny General Hospital on Tuesday indicated Seamus Doherty (67) had suffered a traumatic death. The investigation was upgraded to a murder inquiry.

Investigating gardaí arrested two people in connection with the murder; a man in his 40s was arrested on Wednesday evening and a woman in her 50s was detained on Thursday morning. The man was later released without charge. The woman is being detained at Letterkenny Garda station.
