Gardaí are investigating the circumstances in which a young woman was shot and apparently dumped on a west Dublin street on Tuesday night. It is thought that she may have been shot accidentally.
The 25-year-old woman sustained gunshot wounds to her back. She was taken to St James's Hospital, where her injuries were described as not life-threatening.
Gardaí were alerted to the incident just before 10pm on Tuesday by residents of a house on O'Moore Road, Ballyfermot.
Detectives believe that the victim was taken to the house of a family she knew.
Garda sources said they believed that the woman was shot with a hand gun, possibly inside the vehicle which took her to the house. They believed that the shooting took place a short distance away. "We don't think she was the intended victim, and it is likely that the gun went off in the car that she was travelling in at the time."
The woman underwent surgery yesterday and while she had spoken to investigating gardaí she did not say who had shot her and gave no description of the circumstances of the shooting.
Meanwhile, gardaí in Blanchardstown were last night questioning two men about another incident on Tuesday night in which a 15-year-old boy was attacked and robbed after a knife was put to this throat.
The boy, who is originally from Greece, was attacked by two men in their late teens as he walked through a wooded area in Coolmine at about 9.20pm.
The boy's clothing was torn and a number of items, including a mobile phone, were taken. The boy was said to be severely traumatised.
