A South African woman, arrested yesterday afternoon at Cork Airport, has been remanded in custody on charges of possessing stolen travellers cheques worth €100,000.

The 29-year-old woman, with an address in Waterford city, was arrested following a joint Garda and Interpol inquiry into an international stolen cheques scam.

She was travelling from Johannesburg via Amsterdam.

She appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court this morning.

She was remanded in Limerick Prison to appear again at the same court on Monday morning.
