An Irish worker is in critical condition after falling multiple stories at a construction site in Brisbane, Australia.
Local media said the 37-year-old plasterer fell from the seventh floor of the site, on the Gold Coast, just after 7am on Sunday, fracturing his legs and ribs.
Gold Coast Bulletin reported that the man was placed in an induced coma by paramedics and brought to Gold Coast University Hospital, which is still trying to establish his identity.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said on Monday: “We have not been contacted for assistance, but we stand ready if required.” It is unknown if the man is from the Republic of Ireland or from Northern Ireland.
The man fell from waterfront apartments being built at Lakefront Crescent at Varsity Lakes, according to Queensland Ambulance Service.
The building site has been closed until later in the week. Police and Queensland's Workplace Health and Safety agency are investigating.
