An Irishman was found dead in the Turkish resort of Bodrum on Friday afternoon, according to Turkish media reports.
The man in his 60s was found with a stab wound in his apartment at about 2pm on Friday. He arrived in the area on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast almost three weeks ago.
Local reports say residents in neighbouring apartments contacted the police after seeing a bloodied knife outside the man’s apartment.
A video accompanying a report by the Turkish newspaper Sabah showed a number of police gathered on a busy street in front of what is believed to be the man’s apartment.
The building is located on Neyzen Tevfik street, a seaside avenue that runs the length of the water-front in the centre of the town.
The man’s body was taken to a forensic medical facility in Mugla, a town 110 kms north of Bodrum and a police investigation is underway.
The Irish embassy in Ankara had no further information on the incident when contacted on Friday evening.
Bodrum in southwest Turkey is a popular resort town among Irish and European sunseekers.
