Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has apologised after he suggested US president Barack Obama was not a 'real black president'.

In a tweet praising Republican candidate for the 2016 presidency race , Ben Carson, he said: "Ben and Candy Carson terrific. What about a real black President who can properly address the racial divide?"

Mr Obama had a white American mother and a Kenyan father who was studying in the US while Mr Carson’s parents were both US-born African Americans.

The Newscorp founder later urged his followers to read an article in New York magazine that he said showed “minority community disappointment” with the president.
