The Workers' Party says it can win a seat in Waterford in the general election, 10 years after its sole deputy lost his Dail seat.

Mr Tomas MacGiolla lost out in 1992, when Mr Liam Lawlor took the last Dublin West seat by 55 votes.

Mr John Lowry, the Workers' Party (WP) general sectretary, said the party was "quietly confident" its Waterford candidate, Cllr John Halligan, would take a seat.
