A young Dublin man appeared at a special court in Cavan last night on a charge arising from last Sunday's early morning raid on a shop and filling station in Co Monaghan.

Mr Troy Spratt (20), of Darndale, Dublin, was charged before Judge Cormac Dunnet at a special sitting of the District Court in Cavan town.

Mr Spratt was charged with the unlawful seizure by force of a motor vehicle at Drumgeeney, Carrickmacross, on September 12th last.

He was represented at the brief hearing by solicitor Mr Gerry Jones, of Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan.

Evidence of Mr Spratt's arrest was given by Sgt Fergus Treanor of Carrickmacross.

The accused did not speak during the hearing. He was remanded in custody until a sitting of the District Court at Clovedrhill Court in Dublin on September 23rd next.

Garda Inspector Jim Marks, of Carrickmacross Garda Station, objected to bail.
