Gardai are treating the death of a 23-year-old woman, whose body was found in a burned out caravan in Co Clare as suspicious, it was confirmed today.

The young woman has been named as Emer O'Loughlin, who was living in the caravan in a field at Ballybornagh, near Tubber in north Clare where her body was found.

Gardai identified the remains of the 23-year-old - originally from Enistymon and a student at the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology - after extensive DNA testing.

A garda spokeswoman said: "A post mortem was carried out but the results were inconclusive. Technical tests are now being carried out on the remains and these can take a couple of weeks for the results.

"We have been treating the death as suspicious."

Officers have appealed for anyone with information on the death to come forward.
