The 19-year-old youth who was injured in a fight in south Co Dublin yesterday remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital this evening.

Gardaí believe that up to 20 youths were involved in the violent melee in Goatstown in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The fight took place on Taney Road after a group of friends, mainly from Dundrum, who had been drinking together emerged from The Goat Inn pub.

They were confronted by another group, believed to be mainly from the Stillorgan and Cabinteely areas, and fighting broke out.

It is understood the injured youth, a student from Dundrum, was kicked in the head a number of times after being knocked to the ground. The incident is believed to have occurred between 12.20 and 12.45 a.m.
