Irish Times columnists Breda O’Brien and Noel Whelan join Hugh Linehan on the Inside Politics podcast to debate the same-sex marriage referendum. The following two quotes give a flavour of the debate. Listen to the podcast, and have your say below.

Breda O’Brien: “It’s extraordinary really that the entire establishment has thrown its weight behind this: we’ve every political party, we have the vast majority of people working in the media, we even have Twitter telling us our economy will be in danger which I’d say is probably news to Angela Merkel because they don’t have same-sex marriage. You have this huge consensus amongst the elite which actually is silencing people.”

Noel Whelan: “(The No side is) whistleblowing in a crowded theatre with a view to create panic and confusion where there is no such fire or fear. We’ve just seen it this morning, twice over, it’s extraordinary to watch. They have to make the referendum about surrogacy because they can’t defeat the equality argument.”
