Amnesty International this month voted for the decriminalisation of sex work and prostitution, as well as for the decriminalisation of the purchase of sex. Sarah Benson, the chief executive of Ruhama and Catriona O'Brien, a sex worker and member of the Sex Workers Alliance Ireland, argue the case for and against making the purchase of sex a criminal offence

Ms Benson says evidence from around the world shows that legalisation of the trade as a whole fails to protect the most vulnerable, while Ms O'Brien says the criminalisation of purchasers of sex does not prevent trafficking.
