Carbon counts on labels

Consumers deserve this information

Sir, – Further to Ultan O’Broin’s suggestion (Letters, Ma 28th) that carbon counts should be included on menus, which I think is an excellent idea, I propose that the carbon count of every new item we purchase should be shown clearly in any advertising, promotional material and point-of- sale information. Consumers could help to make a real impact in addressing the climate crisis by their informed buying decisions. Items would include everything from a “needle to an anchor”, including cars, household appliances, processed foodstuffs, etc. Such an approach would provide consumers with a real opportunity to make a difference in protecting our beautiful home and planet. – Yours, etc,

JOHN E RYAN,
