Sir, – You report the Taoiseach’s opinion that Ireland’s membership of Nato is a political decision that warrants a referendum (“Referendum would have to be held before Ireland joined Nato, Taoiseach says”, June 29th). Can I suggest that he saves time, expense and voter fatigue (or apathy for referendums, call it what you will) and calls on every party to put this “political policy matter” forward as part of its manifesto.
Better still, why doesn’t Fianna Fáil go first and publish its policy ahead of the election. – Yours, etc,
