Sir, – Payment errors for doctors in the HSE have been commonplace for years (“HSE apologises for payroll issues that delayed payments to trainee doctors”, News, August 7th).
In total euro terms, these are minuscule compared to the 30 per cent consultant pay cut, erosion of pension entitlements, and threats to private working practice that doctors in training face today.
This appears to be the HSE’s way of notifying early-career doctors of the treatment they can expect throughout their careers. Those who identify the toxic culture early and leave are likely our best diagnosticians and decision-makers. – Yours, etc,
