Sir, – Regarding Larry the Cat and his snub of An Taoiseach (Photograph, September 19th), if one wishes to pet a cat, it is totally inappropriate to swoop down on the animal from above.
This is perceived as a threat. It is necessary to get down to the same level as the animal and offer your hand gently.
Then the cat ultimately decides how things will proceed.
