Sir, – In response to Orla Tinsley’s column on her experience of the taxi service for dialysis patients (Health, September 20th) my experience of getting a taxi to and from dialysis has been very positive .
Over a three-year period, which included pre-, during and post-Covid lockdowns I attended dialysis. All my encounters with the drivers were very good. Most of the drivers knew each other and virtually all of them took great interest in the patients they were responsible for transporting and I was lucky to be able to develop a great relationship with many of the drivers who looked after me. My fellow patients were generally also very complimentary of the service provided. Yes, we had the occasional hiccup but that for me was only after the dialysis was completed when I may have waited a relatively short period of time.
Thanks to the generosity of a deceased donor and their family I was lucky to get a kidney transplant earlier this year and all is going well with my recovery. – Yours, etc,
