Sir, – This week Germany nationalised its biggest gas importer, Uniper, to avert a supply crisis and last week took control of Russian-owned oil refineries.
Meanwhile, Minister for Environment and Climate Eamon Ryan rejects a call to expand the powers of the energy regulator to prevent firms gouging consumers with increased standing charges.
It was not something that could be dealt with by “the stroke of a regulatory pen”.
Isn’t that the Minister’s job? To legislate.
