Sir, – Following many months and dozens of emails to Bord Gáis asking why standing charges have increased, I can inform the bill payers and media of the answer, according to Bord Gáis.
The first is that it “felt the need” to increase them because of rising energy costs. It follows that up with the additional and contradictory information that the charges are there to cover the maintenance and daily use of the meters.
Anyone else who is extra careful not to disturb the spiders and their webs inside said boxes while reading the meter will have a wry smile at that one.
I’m still trying to elicit an answer that makes sense as I’m not in the habit of reading fantasy fiction. – Yours, etc,
