Sir, – A momentous moment in the history of Irish women’s sport in Ireland. Ireland are going to a World Cup.

Awesome. – Yours, etc,

DAMIEN CARROLL,

Dublin 24.

Sir, – In a very dark time for Donegal, but especially Creeslough, on an historic night for women’s football, Amber Barrett from Milford scored an inspirational goal to ensure the Republic of Ireland will be represented at the World Cup next summer. Her celebration included going down on one knee and kissing her black armband in a mark of respect and dedication. A sporting moment for the ages. Heroes one and all. – Yours, etc,

STEPHEN O’HARA,

Carrowmore,

Sligo.

Sir, – Delight has turned to embarrassment (“FAI apologises for IRA changing room chant”, Sport, October 12th).

They do not represent my views, nor many many people on the island of Ireland, as the wearing of the national jersey would suggest. Shame on them for setting such a destructive and backward example for young players. Consequences for the players involved are needed. – Yours, etc,

EDWARD O’BOYLE,

Dublin 1.
