Sir, – Ronan McGreevy’s feature on Irish landmarks in London (“The insider’s guide to Irish historical landmarks in London”, Abroad, October 17th) contains two small errors: “The Duke [of Wellington was born at 24 Merrion Square in Dublin in 1769, where the Merrion Hotel is now situated.”
The birthplace and the hotel are in Merrion Street, not Square.
“There is also a blue plaque to [Oscar] Wilde at 34 Tide Street in Chelsea where he lived in London.”
Wilde lived in Tite Street, not “Tide”. In Wilde’s time, the house was number 16. – Yours, etc,
