Sir, – February has ended. Hedge-cutting on uncultivated land is an offence under Section 40 of the Wildlife Act from March 1st to August 31st. The birds do not understand this and have been building their nests for weeks now.
This earlier start has been noticeable for several years, as our climate changes. I suggest it may be time for Government to consider revising this legislation and make hedge-cutting an offence from after January 31st and legal from July 1st. – Yours, etc,
