A chara, – I refer to Trish Murphy’s article “Our relationship has deteriorated since my wife got a big work promotion” (Health + Family, April 4th).
The issue is glaring: women still do the full-time job of running the home alongside their actual full-time jobs. I imagine the increase in her professional workload came with no corresponding reallocation of domestic responsibilities (ie to him or paying for housekeeping). If his wife had always done this work (as he was the breadwinner), I expect he has no clue how much is involved and this is the source of her disappointment.
Trish Murphy suggests starting a conversation to examine the shift in circumstances. I sincerely hope the allocation of the physical and emotional workload of running a house is top of the agenda. – Is mise,
