Sir, – In An Irishman’s Diary (April 22nd), Frank McNally credits Francis Joy as the founder of the Belfast Telegraph which was in fact established by the brothers William & George Baird in 1870.
Francis Joy established the Belfast Newsletter at a much earlier date in1737 and it is regarded as the oldest newspaper in the English speaking world. -Yours, etc
