Sir, – Since e-scooters made their appearance on the streets of Bergen in Norway and many other European cities a few years ago, the near-total absence of these abominable vehicles from Ireland has been part of the pleasure of visiting the country.
For everyone’s sake, just ban them now rather than in five years. – Yours, etc,

A chara, – This week in Terenure in Dublin, I attended a crowded meeting about the BusConnects proposals for the area spanned by Kimmage, Harold’s Cross, Rathmines and Ranelagh. Most of the people there were in their 60s.
If there were an e-bike for the elderly grant, similar to the bike to work grant, most of these people could leave their car at home 90 per cent of the time, with a huge positive effect on the climate, and on their pockets.
I cycled from Rathmines to Stillorgan last week and it nearly killed me – and a couple of years ago I used to romp up those hills. A light folding e-bike that could be folded and brought on public transport when necessary would be a life-changer. – Is mise,
