Sir, – It was a delight to read “The Wicklow couple with the world’s only wild bee sanctuary: ‘They are in trouble’” (Keith Duggan, Life & Style, August 7th). The sanctuary at Coolafancy shows what can be done by committed individuals to support our precious wildlife.
It brought a smile to my face to see that in your photo caption the red-tailed bumblebee has changed its name to the much more colourful “red-arsed bumblebee”.
I suggest the great spotted woodpecker, also pictured, could be renamed the great red-arsed woodpecker. – Yours, etc,
