Sir, – Regarding the recent tweet retreat of the Environmental Protection Agency, under pressure from the Irish Farmers’ Association, it seems like an own goal by the IFA (“EPA deletes tweet advising people to cut their red meat consumption”, News, August 29th).

I would never have heard the advice had it remained on the internet, but now it has spread to print, radio and television media. I hope the EPA has thanked the IFA for all the extra publicity. – Is mise,

Sir, – It is good to see the EPA taking a principled scientific stance to promote dietary behaviours that will lessen our climate impacts. However, it is somewhat worrying that they are so flexible and adaptable with those principles that if the IFA does not like them, then the EPA can change them! – Yours, etc,
