Sir, – David Graham of Education Equality is proposing that Catholic pupils attending Catholic primary schools should do what amounts to detention and stay back after school to study religion (Letters, September 8th). Why should Catholic students be punished for attending Catholic schools?
The Catholic bishops may well promote the divestment of schools, but the fact remains that in Department of Education inspectorate surveys invariably over 92 per cent of parents of children attending Catholic schools are very happy with those schools under their current patronage. Why change a good thing?
If others would like a different school, then apply to the Department of Education to build one. – Is mise,
