Sir, – A letter writer (September 20th) states that those of us living on the southside of Dublin city wishing to travel to Dublin Airport have “no practical route except through the city centre”. She appears to be referring solely to transport by private car, but even there I’m afraid she is mistaken. If you must drive to the airport, there are two substantial pieces of road infrastructure that will allow you to bypass the city centre. The Port Tunnel, accessed via the East Link bridge, will get you to the long-term car park in half an hour on a good day. Alternatively you can drive south to the M50 and it may take you a little longer. But when you factor in the cost and time associated with parking, road tolls and traffic congestion, there is a much more attractive and stress-free option.
Aircoach runs a very comfortable bus every 15 to 30 minutes, 24 hours a day and stops at three locations in Donnybrook to pick up passengers. It will get you to the airport in a predictable time, thanks to the dedicated bus lanes on the route and it will drop you right to the door of either terminal and all for a very competitive price. There is no need to worry about finding and paying for a parking space. There is no need to worry about how long it will be before the shuttle bus arrives to bring you to the terminal. And there is no need to worry about leaving that little bit early in case the traffic congestion is worse than expected.
All that, and you are helping to improve the quality of the urban environment by having one less car on the city’s streets. – Yours, etc,
CIARÁN FERRIE,
Dublin 6.
