Sir, – Further to “Public takes a tough line on RTÉ after payments controversy, poll shows” (News, September 30th), for too many years the public has funded a mediocre and barely relevant RTÉ, with mediocre presenters, imported programmes and broadcasts. It is less of a public media service and more of a service to its highly paid employees and frequently employed and excessively remunerated contractors and “stars”. It is now time for Catherine Martin, the Cabinet and the Government to make decisions on the structure of RTÉ as a public service broadcaster without any commercial activity, on the short-term funding of RTÉ to enable the appointment of an administrator or liquidator to dispose of the commercial activities, and on deciding the mode of funding the new media public service. – Yours, etc,
