Sir, – My favourite Bobby Charlton memory is attending Kilcohan Park when he played for Waterford against Finn Harps in, I think, January 1976.
It was a freezing cold day and the slow train that took my then girlfriend and me from Dublin to Waterford was as cold inside as outside. At the match we were rewarded by Bovril and a classic Charlton daisy cutter, which made the journey well worth the effort.
The hardy young Dub who made the journey with me was not entirely discouraged – we were married after a few more matches and are still together. – Yours, etc,
