Sir, – In Tuesday’s “Head to Head” debate, Jen Hogan, in her defence of religious education in schools, states, “If we could find a way to include religious instruction within the classroom that didn’t lead to the exclusion of some, I believe the majority would like it to continue.” But her opponent, Rob Sadlier, offers a simple solution to this: religious education should take place just before or after normal school hours, on an opt-in basis (“Should religion be taken out of the classroom? Rob Sadlier vs Jen Hogan”, Opinion & Analysis, November 7th).
This seems so obvious and so simple to implement that I can’t understand why it’s not being done, or why anyone would object to it! – Yours, etc,
