Sir, – It is great to see “return” vending machines being installed in local supermarkets. Currently I can dispose of plastic and aluminium drink containers in my local German supermarket.
The machine dispenses vouchers to the value of €0.10 per item (to a maximum of €2), which can be used in my next shop. However, the system will only accept containers bought in that store and rejects containers from other supermarket. When the legislation comes into effect in February, does this mean that as well as my black, brown and green bins I will also have to sort any plastic and cans into separate supermarket groups – Dunnes Stores, SuperValu, Tesco, Centra, etc – and remember which is which? – Yours, etc,
