Sir, – While I sympathise with Justine McCarthy’s crusade to rid us of Americanisms (“Just reaching out about all those annoying expressions we use”, Opinion & Analysis, December 29th), I fear it was always ever thus. Indeed for the indignant newspaper writers of the time, the emergence of the Beatles was doubly upsetting. Not merely did they have ridiculously long hair but they also sang “She Loves You Yeah Yeah Yeah” instead of “Yes Yes Yes”. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I heartily agree with the examples of annoying expressions in Justine McCarthy’s article and would like to add one of my own. If something for sale is at a good price it has become common to add the word “point” and say it is a good price point. I don’t see the point. Also, I wish people would stop describing items for sale as “offerings”. – Yours, etc,
