Sir, – Having taught in many schools across different jurisdictions, I have long pondered various school rules (Jen Hogan, “Uniforms, piercings, haircuts – which school rules make sense?”, Education, January 2nd). Indeed, I have enforced rules, like walking on the correct side of the corridor, with which I did not particularly agree.
However, in general, I have found that students appreciate school rules. They relish pushing against them but also embrace the security that rules and boundaries provide. – Yours, etc,
