Sir, – I read that the Road Safety Authority has been denied extra funding of €6 million to provide “increased advertising spend on campaigns highlighting the dangers of drink driving, speeding, distracted driving and drug driving” (News, January 30th). This funding would be far more effective if directed towards providing sufficient gardaí to enforce the law. Penalties for breaches should be greatly increased also. This would be far more effective than any number of advertising campaigns.
We have no problem making laws in this country but appear to be completely hopeless at enforcing them. – Yours, etc,
