Sir, – Karl Martin (Letters, February 27th) suggests that there has been a loss of public trust in journalism partly due to an alleged under-reporting of concerns about immigration. If he reads The Irish Times daily, however, he should know that recently this newspaper has chosen to put a story about immigration on its front page at least every other day.
For example, of the 27 editions of The Irish Times published this past January, 14 editions had a story related to immigration on the front page, often with further coverage of the issue inside the paper.
Perhaps the reason why some people are losing trust in journalism is in fact due to concerns that the media is trying to stoke up the issue of immigration? – Yours, etc,
