Sir, – Laura Kennedy’s article “‘Quiet’ weddings: My ceremony took 20 minutes and afterwards I went back to work” (Opinion & Analysis, May 12th) reminded me of our own wedding, also at the start of the pandemic.
We were the last couple to get married in the Cork Registry Office on the day that they decided to close everything and they even waived the fee for us as they would be closing until the lockdown was over.
It was surreal but lovely. Genuinely lovely with our two friends as witnesses and back home again. We could not deal with the cost or the drama.
We had a house that needed work and other dreams in life.
