Britain – frayed at the edges?

Sir, – Finn McRedmond, in one of her stimulating, if inevitably polemical, opinion pieces on the state of affairs in the UK (“Britain is not ‘broken’ – it is just a bit frayed”, Opinion & Analysis, June 27th) contends: “And there are crises – the NHS, the cost of living, the crumbling of public services – that are serious but not existential and not unresolvable.”

Writing from inside the UK, I’ve no criticism of the notion these crises are not fundamentally “existential”.

But I look forward to an outline of how these problems (and perhaps adding immigration onto the list?) might be “resolved”.

I’d imagine the leaders of the main political parties in the UK would be delighted to receive a copy. – Yours, etc,
