Sir, – There seems to be a perception that in the case of serious crime, the offender has “got away with it” unless he or she receives a prison sentence. Account is not taken of the reputational damage, which effectively is a life sentence, and the criminal record that will show up in any future vetting.
Justice dispensed from the bench, while sometimes flawed and inconsistent, is preferable to that handed down by public opinion. – Yours, etc,
