Sir, – I’ve often thought how absurd it is that the baseball season in the US culminates in play-offs called the “World Series”. It seems to impart undue importance to a game played primarily in that one, admittedly large, country.
However, the term seems fairly modest looking at a headline in the Sports Monday section. The unexpected make up of the All-Ireland semifinals, pairing Kerry with Armagh and Galway with Donegal, suggests a “new world order” no less (July 1st).
In a year of massive political change, isn’t it great that sport can remind us of what really matters? – Yours, etc,
