Sir, – I agree with the benefits and necessity for school uniforms (The Debate, Opinion, August 6th). However, it is about time that Irish school uniforms are updated.
Few people wear ties to work these days and yet we insist on children wearing ridiculous ankle-length skirts, ties and woolie jumpers.
Why not modernise uniforms to replace shirts and ties with polo shirts, jumpers with fleeces, etc? There would still be uniformity to what children wear, it would be just as neat and probably more affordable. – Yours, etc,
