Sir, – Eithne White (Letters, August 14th), writing in response to “Why do shops charge for paper bags and is it justified?” (Conor Pope, Pricewatch, August 13th), complains that branded bags for high-end stores should be plain and not be a vehicle for free advertising for Brown Thomas, Arnotts and the like. I would think that some shoppers are only to willing to let people know that they can afford to shop in these outlets. – Yours, etc,
