Sir, – There is a certain naivety in the persistent claims that the greater use of regional airports would solve the problems currently being experienced at Dublin Airport (Letters, October 18th).
Cork is a good example. The major flight paths into the airport are over residential areas, and aircraft leaving and arriving in Cork produce significant noise pollution in these areas, particularly in the early morning and late at night.
Residents currently endure this with a certain stoicism but the degree to which this would survive an increase in such noise is open to question. So the greater use of regional airports risks simply moving Dublin’s problems to other parts of the country. – Yours, etc,
