Sir, – Frank McNally’s Irishman’s Diary last Thursday about the Dromcollogher cinema disaster was a very interesting and well-constructed article on a subject that is very close to our hearts here in Dromcollogher (”The Dromcollogher cinema fire disaster – Frank McNally on a fateful day in 1926″, November 14th).
Next year will see the centenary of this major disaster in which 48 of our citizens died.
The Dromcollogher26 group has been formed to mark that centenary with a programme of commemorative events.
In addition, this group is actively researching the impact that the disaster had on the people and the community of Dromcollogher. As well as referencing official and media sources, we are having conversations with those that have lived longest in our locality.
