Sir, – Recently I was overjoyed when a business call was promptly answered, and virtually elated when there was an actual human being at the other end. And as my query was being addressed – and while we waited for the technology to work - I was politely asked if I minded “hanging on a minute, I just want to check the dinner”. I was delighted to oblige as I could have waited for hours instead on a call where “your call is important to us”, periodically interjected between a tinny “Greensleeves” or some other musical abomination. Our business got done in a professional, civilised fashion with pleasant, human interaction, while we both worked from home.
