Sir, – David McCullagh, in his excellent work From Crown to Harp, reveals that a statue of Prince Albert still stands “in an obscure position outside Leinster House”.
The author goes on to state that this is because “few realise it is there”. Could this anachronistic reminder of our colonised past be replaced by a more deserving and appropriate figure?
Possibly by a statue of TK Whitaker in appreciation for the strategic role he played in Ireland’s economic and social regeneration – through the first programme for economic expansion – from the late 1950s onwards. – Yours, etc,
JOHN NAUGHTON
