Reports from Friday night matches warrants more space

Sir, - One would have required the detection skills of Sherlock Holmes to unearth any reportage of last Friday night’s League of Ireland programme in the Sports Weekend section.

While appreciating the pressure on space due to the weekend’s competing sporting attractions, limiting League of Ireland coverage to one match report and two tiny paragraphs is risible. Ben Lynch’s eighth-place finish in the freestyle skiing halfpipe garnered almost as much coverage.

League of Ireland football is intrinsic to the strategic development of the game in this country. It deserves to be treated with greater respect. - Yours, etc,
