Thousands of words on housing have fallen on deaf ears

Photographs of elderly citizens facing eviction in Sligo convey the message that current policy is wrong

Sir, – They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Many have uttered thousands of words in an effort to persuade those in Government that their market-led housing policy is profoundly flawed and causing untold distress for many.

The words have fallen on deaf ears. So maybe the photograph of elderly citizens facing eviction that accompanied the latest outrageous outfall of that policy might jar the collective conscience (‘How can they put us out on the street?’: Sligo retirement village residents face eviction, March 20th).

The photograph not only conveys the message that the policy is wrong but is also most likely immoral. – Yours, etc,

JIM O’SULLIVAN,

Rathedmond,

Sligo.
