A nifty Honda 50

Our journey down St Patrick’s Hill in Cork tested the brakes fully

Sir, – Eugene Tannam’s memories of his Honda 50 (Letters, March 21st) brings back fond recollections for me as well.

My two brothers and I each had a Honda 50 to ferry us, with our late sister as pillion, from home in Bishopstown, Cork to UCC in the mid-1970s and early 1980s.

My abiding memory is making it to the top of St Patrick’s Hill with a pillion one evening, without stopping.

The return journey back down tested the brakes fully.

What a great machine was the “Nifty 50″. – Yours, etc,
